About Surefire Kids
Surefire Kids is a labor of love between two sisters, born from a shared passion for championing youth. In 2008, Kim partnered with her sister Wendy to coach middle and high school volleyball. During that time, they realized they had an opportunity to mentor these girls, both on and off the court. The key to unlocking each girl’s potential? Something simple, yet powerful and underused in today’s digital world: the handwritten note. The sisters came up with the concept of Surefire Kids—a series of pre-designed notecards intentionally left blank, allowing them to craft custom messages of acknowledgement, appreciation and support to the girls.
Over time they began sending notecards to other youth, too: the captain of the football team for showing leadership to younger athletes; the little girls helping at the concession stands. The sisters quickly realized these notecards weren’t just a piece of paper—they were a propellant of kindness and love. Giving kids these cards inspired them to go out and give back to the community. Over the years, kids have run up to the sisters and hugged them, thanking them for the cards and saying how much the handwritten messages have meant to them.
The Surefire Kids concept—acknowledging kids and reinforcing them to be kind, bold and generous—was something Kim had already been using with her own children for years. However, she often thought of what it would mean to children who don’t have a strong support system. Surefire Kids can provide a warm hug when needed—a tangible reminder that somebody cares.
When Wendy passed away in 2017, Kim decided to honor her sister’s life (and her passion for helping youth) by formally building out the Surefire Kids brand.
